Wonderful World Book Day

This WBD, I paid a visit to the fantastic Field Junior School in Watford. I was made very welcome by everyone as we discussed original Norse kennings, modern phrases which use kennings today, and then had a go at writing riddle poetry, using the kenning form. Why don’t you see if you can work out what animal is being described in each of these brilliant poems?

As you can probably guess, it’s a not-so-cuddly BEAR!

Did you know that it’s not just kangaroos whose babies are called joeys? That’s right, KOALAS’ babies are too!

Does your DOG also have some of these unsavoury habits?

The answer is a DOG again, but not just any dog - Mrs Hunt’s canine companion and guide dog, the handsome Denton.

Hopefully Denton is happy with his very own poem!

It’s a CAT of course - watch out for your toes!

Some more great kennings to describe a CAT

You’ll not forget this ELEPHANT riddle

Well done everyone - your school is definitely poetry-powered!
