World Poetry Day 2025
It was lovely to be welcomed back to Alban Wood today to share poems with classes from Reception to Year 6. Key Stage one joined in brilliantly with an action poem, guessed the rhymes in another, and performed sound effects perfectly. Many of them also got up on stage to perform! They were the quietest group to ever file into the hall and sit down. (We soon rectified that with some tiger pouncing and kangaroo bouncing!)
Years 3 and 4 wrote some fabulous collaborative poems for someone special, after looking at my poem ‘Love/Hate’ and ‘You’ by Joshua Siegal (published in his book ‘Welcome to my crazy life’), but then adding additional description to their metaphors. Years 5 and 6 came up with some fantastic recipe poems following the example of my poem ‘Recipe for a Wasp’, so if you’d like to know how to cook up your very own cobra or gang of hyenas, or get inspiration for a poem for someone special, read on…
Excellent work once again from the young poets at Alban Wood!
