NaPoWriMo Day 16
Today’s prompt at NaPoWriMo’s website was to ‘write a poem that involves describing something in terms of what it is not, or not like’. Secondary school might not be on everyone’s list of favourite places, but it’s rarely quite as bad as it’s made out!
Big school
It’s not a dreadful dungeon where the punishment won’t stop.
It’s not like rats inside a cage all fighting to the top.
It’s not a land of giants who will grind your bones for bread.
The prefects don’t do martial arts and blood is rarely shed.
It’s not a barren wasteland where folk struggle to survive.
It’s not just like ‘The Hunger Games’; it’s not ‘Lord of the Flies’.
It’s not a brutal battleground like Troy v Ancient Greece.
The homework doesn’t take as long as reading ‘War and Peace’.
It’s not a prison island where there’s no way to escape.
The toilets aren’t like Hogwarts’ and the teachers aren’t like Snape.
Oh gosh – I REALLY hope that’s true and I can trust my mother,
who says that I’ll be fine – AND NOT TO LISTEN TO MY BROTHER!
