NaPoWriMo Day 11

Today’s prompt was based on the poem ‘One Boy Told Me’ by Naomi Shihab Nye. This was the easiest yet, as I have a document where I recorded my children’s first words, mispronunciations and funny bits of conversation, along with their ages. My poem ‘Toddler Talk’ also took inspiration from things they said, but this one is entirely my younger son, between the ages of 3 and 4. It could have been a lot longer!

One boy told me...

(After Naomi Shihab Nye)

You look beautiful Mummy –

beautiful as a frog.

Shh! If we’re very quiet,

we might see a rainbow.

Its colours are:

red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, PIRATE!

We did phonics today and I can spell it:

F O N X.

I’m as clean as a fiddle!

This ice cream is gooder than the Buddha.

I’m not kicking you.

I’m hugging you with my feet.

I had some of that drink you have for sports.

What’s it called? – Loser aid?

I’ll tell YOU something about politics:

Bla bla blah-blah-blah bla!

You look beautiful Mummy –

beautiful as a jammy dodger.
